MacKay competes at NCAA Regional Diving Meet

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — La Verne junior Scott MacKay qualified for and competed in the NCAA Zone 2 Regional Diving Meet, hosted by Trinity (Texas) from Feb. 27-28.

MacKay, who became one of the first two divers ever to compete in the regionals alongside Jacob Tittl '14 last year, posted good results but fell just shy of making it to the national championships.

On Friday, MacKay posted an 11-dive total score of 415.95 on the one-meter board to finish fourth in the event, coming up just short of making the top-two which would have sent him to the national championships. James Stevick of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the event and Daniel Goldstein of Grinnell took second to punch the first two tickets to the national meet.

MacKay needed an outright win on Saturday on the three-meter board to grab the final spot in the nationals, but finished sixth with a score of 373.00.

Despite missing out on the national championships, MacKay had another fine year. He broke both of La Verne's diving events, posting a 482.85 on the one-meter at the 2014 Collegiate Winter Invitational and scoring a 537.00 on the three-meter at the 2015 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

MacKay will return next year for one last shot at making the nationals.
