Women's Water Polo falls to Athenas

LA VERNE, Calif. — Victoria Mezack led La Verne with two goals, two assists, and a steal, but the University of La Verne women's water polo team couldn't overcome a first half deficit, falling to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas 11-7 at Las Flores Park.

Jassmine Kezman added two goals of her own and led the Leopards with two steals. Jasmine Bustamante finished with a pair of goals.

Heading into the fourth quarter down 8-4, the Leopards rallied for three goals in the period including both of Bustamante's goals. But Claremont-Mudd-Scripps matched with three goals of their own to put the game away.

Shelby Garcia got the start in the cage, finishing with eight saves and a steal.

Season Impact: TheLeopards drop to 7-14 overall and 4-7 in the SCIAC. The Athenas improve to 15-9 overall and 8-4 in the SCIAC.

Next Game: The Leopards travel to Pasadena next Wednesday to face Caltech in a 5 p.m. match-up.
