ORANGE, CA — The University of La Verne baseball team rallied in the top of the fifth to overcome an early deficit and tie the game 3-3.
But Chapman responded the next inning scoring four runs to retake the lead on the way to a 0-3 win over the Leopards.
Season Impact
The Leopards end the weekend 1-2 and Chapman improves to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the SCIAC.
How it Happened
La Verne did all its damage in the third inning capitalizing on three hits and an error. Cameron Slessor and Chase Siffert opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Dylan SanNicolas stepped up next and caught a break when he laid down a sacrifice bunt. An error by Chapman on the plate sent Slessor and Siffert home and allowed SanNicolas to reach third.
Brandon Shiota took advantage of the mishap with an RBI ground out to tie the game 3-3. But La Verne went cold the rest of the way, generating just one hit in the final four innings.
Chapman responded by scoring four runs in the sixth and added two insurance runs in the eighth.
Adam Santa Cruz led the Leopards with three hits, and Slessor finished with two.
The Panthers were led by Nick Kondo's two runs and homerun.
