THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Four players scored at least 10 points each for the University of La Verne men's basketball team but Cal Lutheran used a 20-8 second half run to beat the Leopards, 77-66, on Wednesday night at Gilbert Arena.

La Verne falls to 8-11 overall and 6-4 in SCIAC play. Cal Lutheran improves to 8-9 and 4-6.

The Kingsmen made their move after Hakim Arnold put the Leopards up, 51-49, with a pair of free throws 10 minutes into the second half. Cal Lutheran made 6-of-10 field goals while converting 7-of-8 free throws during the stretch to get out to a 69-59 lead and never looked back.

The Leopards got back within 70-64 with 1:39 left in the game and had a chance to make things interesting with a defensive stop. La Verne did force Cal Lutheran to miss twice but the Kingsmen snagged both rebounds and Wade made the Leopards pay with a layup that gave the Kingsmen an eight-point lead with 36 seconds to go.

Arnold finished with a team-high 20 points and grabbed five rebounds. Khaneal Mason scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists. Connor Head put up 12 points and Cruz Martens chipped in 10 points off the bench.

The problem was the Leopards didn't get much from everyone else as they combined for just 11 points.

Dan Wade scored a game-high 21 points for the Kingsmen and Jeremy Sulker-Hall had 13 points and seen rebounds.

Both teams shot well from the field but Cal Lutheran got more chances by forcing 17 turnovers and held a decided edge at the free throw line, where they made 24-of-29 while the Leopards went 18-for-26.

The Leopards return home for the first time in two weeks against Whittier on Saturday.
