La Verne's group effort helps thwart Trinity (Texas) 95-77

REDLANDS, Calif. -- Victor Costa scored a career-high 14 points, Jordan Stokes added 11 and seven rebounds, and La Verne shot better than 55.4 percent from the field en route to a 95-77 win over Trinity (Texas) on Saturday at Lee Fulmer Memorial Classic.

Costa scored five points to lead La Verne (3-1) to a 8-2 run to close the first half, giving the Leopards a 47-35 lead. The Leopards went on another 8-2 run in the opening minutes of the second half to grab a 20-point lead and held the Tigers to just 35 percent shooting in the frame to cruise to the win.

After shooting just over 50 percent in the first half, La Verne went 20 of 34 (58.8 percent) in the second.

Costa and Stokes were joined by two other players in double figures. Hakim Arnold scored 12 points and Connor Head added 10.

La Verne used all available players and received strong contribution from the bench. Khaneal Mason had eight points and four assists, Evan Gustafson scored eight and Juan Eason II pitched in seven.

Trinity (2-5) finished 36.6 percent from the field. A.J. Pulliam and Jayden Holden led the Tigers with 18 and 11 points, respectively.

The Leopards will go on a two-game road trip against Willamette and Linfield next weekend.
