La Verne rallies to slip past Oxy 74-70

LA VERNE, Calif. — Anthony White scored 10 crucial second half points, including the go-ahead bucket, and the La Verne men's basketball team overtook Occidental for a 74-70 win on Saturday at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

The Leopards (8-4, 2-1 SCIAC) were down by as many as 17 points in the second half but kept chipping away, tying the game on a 3-pointer by Kendall McClain with 5:16 to go before edging into its first lead of the game with White's layup to make it 68-66 with 3:12 left.

The Tigers (8-4, 0-3) were in it until the end and had a chance to tie the game with the last shot of the game. But Oxy's Austin DeWitz was called for a charge driving in from the left block with about four seconds remaining and White sank a couple of free throws to ice the game for La Verne.
