Leopards edged by Sagehens Wednesday night

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne men's basketball team fell behind early and couldn't recover, losing to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 75-55 Wednesday night at the Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

Connor Head led the Leopards with 13 points, shooting 6-9 from the field. The senior grabbed four rebounds and dished two assists.

Victor Costa added nine points, grabbing four boards with two assists.

After spotting the Sagehens the first 16 points of the game, the Leopards stormed back, going on a 19-4 run to get to within a point of Pomona-Pitzer midway through the opening half. But that would be as close as the Leopards would get with the Sagehens taking control in the final eight minutes of the half to go up 39-25 at the break.

Brandon Rice and Alec Vucinich each grabbed five rebounds. Rice added seven points.

Pomona-Pitzer was led by Daniel Rosenbaum's 25 points with Micah Elan scoring 19 points.

The Leopards move to 0-15 overall and 0-7 in the SCIAC. The Sagehens improve to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Next Up: The Leopards next host the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen this Saturday at 2 p.m. Saturday's game will be a White Out as fans will be encouraged to wear all white to the game.
