Men’s Soccer crushes St. Katherine, 10-0

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne rolled to a 10-0 win over St. Katherine on Sunday evening at Ortmayer Stadium.

It was a complete and thorough domination. The Leopards attempted a total of 37 shots, 22 of which were on goal. Seven players found the net for the first time this season, including three newcomers. A total of 27 players saw the field for the Leopards and five of the goals came from the bench.

Maldonado opened the scoring eight minutes into the game, Dacko doubled the Leopards' lead just 90 seconds later and Briley Venti notched his first collegiate goal in the 34th minute on a perfect header off a Saul Uribe corner to put the game away early. Uribe then added a score of his own in the 40th minute go give the Leopards a 4-0 lead at halftime.

The goals kept on coming in the second half. Auden Foxe got the second half rolling when he collected a Dacko header that bounced off the right post and slotted it into the lower left corner in the 48th minute. Maldonado and Dacko then scored their second goals in the 54th and the 62nd minutes, respectively.

Nick Gonsalves and Harim Coronado joined the parade in the 64th and the 77th, and Justin Funes made it an even 10 with an unassisted goal with 35 seconds left in the game.

The Firebirds attempted only one shot in the game when Zack Petow launched a 25 yarder in the 68th minute that went right at La Verne goalkeeper Darrin Bangle.

The Leopards, who also notched big in-division road wins at George Fox and Willamette earlier this week, will look to carry the momentum when it starts SCIAC action on Wednesday, Sept. 9, against Cal Lutheran at Ortmayer Stadium.
