Men's Water Polo falls to Pomona-Pitzer

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne men's water polo team fell, 11-5, to Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday morning at La Verne Aquatic Center.

La Verne falls to 6-16 overall and 2-4 in SCIAC play. Pomona-Pitzer improves to 11-13 and 3-3.

The teams traded two goals apiece in the second quarter as Adam Ward put Pomona-Pitzer on the board first at the 6:09 mark in the first and Troy Williams answered for La Verne two minutes later to tie the game. Phillip Clayman and Elias Acosta traded goals to end the first.

But the Sagehens rattled off five unanswered goals to start the second and never looked back.

Acosta led the Leopards with two goals. Williams and Chad Castro each added one.

Ian Hernandez turned in a solid performance in net, making a total of 13 saves, including six in the fourth quarter as the Sagehens tried to stretch their lead.

Before the game, the Leopards held a brief ceremony to honor the careers of their six seniors: Ryan Batchelor Jordan Bowers, Viken Huening, Bryan Jimenez, Andrew Phillips and Williams.

La Verne returns to action on Wednesday at home against Redlands.
