LA VERNE, CA — Charles Ortega has been named an Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Division III All-America honorable mention the ACWPC announced Thursday morning. 

Ortega earns an All-American distinction for the second-straight season after picking up second-team honors a year ago. 

"This is a well-deserved honor for Chuckie," said La Verne Water Polo Head Coach Pat Beemer. "Throughout the season he was a force on both sides of the ball. His talent and incredible work ethic will be missed at La Verne."

The senior led the Leopards in the pool all season, offensively totaling 72 goals and 96 points, both marks ranked Ortega second in the SCIAC. The Covina native tied for first on the Leopards' squad with 52 drawn exclusions and also ranked second on the team with 27 steals. Ortega scored at least three goals in 15 games and finished with at least five goals in six games. His best individual performance came against Occidental when he led the Leopards with five goals, two assists, four steals, and three drawn exclusion in an 18-10 win.

Ortega picked up Second Team All-SCIAC honors earlier this year.
