THOUSAND OAKS, CA — The University of La Verne men's water polo team squared off in their last contest of 2021 against Cal Lutheran University on Saturday. The Kingsmen took care of business at home on their senior day, beating the Leopards by a score of 22-7.

Cal Lutheran finished second place in SCIAC with a 12-2 conference record, totaling 21 wins and only four losses on the year. The Leopards finished seventh in the SCIAC, totaling three wins and suffering 16 losses; La Verne finished with a 2-12 conference record.

Junior Alam Barnuevo led the scoring charge for La Verne, the only visiting attacker with two goals in the match. Five other Leopards recorded goals including first-years Tristan Tippett and Jason Shultenberg, junior Gage Unsoeld, and seniors Guillermo Ocasio and Michael Staine. Goalkeepers Jonah Alvarado and Ryan Lehotsky split even time in the net, but their efforts were not enough to stop the Kingsmen.

Both teams shot the ball 33 times apiece, but Cal Lutheran put up 6-6-7 scores in the first three quarters to take a commanding lead against La Verne. The Kingsmen were carried by Parker Jory, who scored six goals and dished four assists to his teammates for ten points.
