LA VERNE, CA — Gabriella Underwood and Katheryn Navarro have been named SCIAC Athletes of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced.

Underwood was named SCIAC Hitter of the Week after leading the Leopards at the plate with four hits, two RBI, two runs, and a walk in La Verne's opening doubleheader. Navarro earned SCIAC Pitcher of the Week honors after earning a complete game win with four strikeouts in game two against St. Katherine. 

"I'm extremely happy they received this recognition," said interim head coach Henry Moranchel. "It's great to open the season with a win but we know we still have a lot of room for improvement to achieve the rest of our goals." 

The Leopards split with the Firebirds on opening day dropping game one 13-10 before winning the backend of the doubleheader 5-3. The Leopards are back in action this Saturday when they host the Whitworth Pirates in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
