Softball splits with No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, CA — The Leopards got their offense going in the final three innings the game to score an 8-1 win over the No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens.

Season Impact

The Leopards improve to 10-12 overall and 6-6 in conference play after their second win over a top-25 opponent. La Verne beat then No. 7 Berry earlier this season. The Sagehens improve to 15-5-1 overall and 8-4 in the SCIAC. 

La Verne currently sits at third place in the SCIAC.

How it Happened

Sienna Kendricks led the Leopards with three RBI in the win. The senior sent runs across the plate in each of the last three innings, hitting a sacrifice fly in the fifth and singling in a run in both the sixth and seventh innings. 

Melissa Garcia and Gabriella Underwood both added two RBI. Garcia gave the Leopards the lead in the fifth inning when she singled in Katheryn Navarro.

Underwood added to the Leopards' lead in the seventh when she hit a double to left center that scored Rachel Ogata, putting La Verne up 7-1.

Navarro finished with three hits, two runs, and an RBI.

Jiana Rojo was solid in the circle, earning the complete game with a pair of strikeouts.

The Leopards dropped the first game of the doubleheader 6-0.

Nex Game

The Leopards are back in action on Monday when they host No. 7 Williams in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. For the Leopards, who boast one of the toughest schedules in the nation, it will be their ninth and tenth games against a ranked opponent this season.
