Hanna sets record on day two of SCIAC Championships

COMMERCE, Calif. — Mary Hanna set a new University of La Verne swimming and diving record to highlight day two of the 2018 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Hanna made history for the Leopards in the women's 200 yard individual medley. After a quick start, covering the first 25 yards in 27.27 seconds, Hanna posted a third place finish in the consolation final, setting the new La Verne record at 2:11.84. Hanna breaks the previous record of 2:12.25 set by Maddie Lovrensky at the 2014 Collegiate Winter Invitational.

Brandon Pon took eighth in the consolation final of the 500 freestyle. The La Verne record holder in the event finished with a time of 4:40.42.

In the men's 200 yard freestyle relay, the Leopards took ninth with Kristofer Grigorian, Pon, Javier De Santiago, and CJ Woodward touching at 1:29.52.

The women's 200 yard freestyle relay team took eighth with the combination of Kayla Yip, Hanna, Isabelle Cheng, and Rachel Miyoga finishing with a time of 1:40.38.

La Verne is back in action tomorrow starting with morning preliminaries at 9 a.m.
