CLAREMONT, Calif. — Angelyn Caldwell won the high jump, Taylor Schulze took the pole vault and the University of La Verne women's track and field team earned a split at the second SCIAC Multi-Dual meet at Strehle Track on Saturday.
The Leopards beat Whittier 113-47 and lost to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 104-59.
Caldwell cleared a high of 1.50 meters (4 feet, 11 inches) to win the high jump. Caldwell cleared 1.40 meters, 1.45 meters and 1.50 meters on first attempts, but came just shy of jumping 1.55 meters.
Krystal Gutierrez placed second in the high jump with a jump of 1.45 meters
Taylor Schulze vaulted 3.43 meters (11-3.00) in the pole vault to claim the event.
The Leopards recorded a handful of top-five finishes.
Tiahna Gillon came in second in the 100 meters at 12.35 seconds while Taelor Roby got fifth with a time of 13.10 seconds.
Kimmy Kabluyen was fourth in the 200 at 26.64 and took third in the 400 with a time of 59.14 seconds. Alexa Smith was just behind Kabluyen in the 400 at 59.67.
Sarah Chang recorded a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 22.88 seconds and claimed fourth place.
Andrea Ramirez finished fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:49.06.
Mele Halalilo continued to shine in the throwing events, recording three top-five honors. She was third in the shot put with a toss of 11.59 meters (38-00.25), second in the discus with a throw of 40.97 meters (134-05) and fourth in the hammer with a throw of 37.37 meters (122-07).
Jaclyn Castleberry took fourth in the shot put (11.24m; 36-10.50) and fifth in the discus (33.60m; 110-03).
Christiana Coughlin and Angelina Arreola went 3-4 in the javelin with throws of 35.01 meters (114-10) and 34.70 meters (113-10), respectively.
The 4x100 relay team of Roby, Kabluyen, Tanesha Spencer and Gillon combined to clock a 48.73 and finished second behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The 4x400 relay team of Kabluyen, Caldwell, Ramirez and Smith also finished second behind the Athenas at 4:04.46.
The Leopards return to action next Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
