SAN DIEGO — Former Leopard Lenore Moreno '14 won the women's division of the 2015 Suja Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon on May 31 with a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, 39 seconds.
With Sunday's performance, Moreno has met the "B" standard for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for marathon and will race the event on Feb. 13, 2016 in Los Angeles.
"Being from a small school like La Verne, it was a lot of fun to be doing well at a big race like this," Moreno said. "I'm looking forward to competing with the very top runners in the country at the Trials next year."
Not only did Moreno finish first among women, but she also beat all but two men in the entire event and finished third overall. She was so far ahead of the pack that she ran by herself almost the entire race, which made it a lot more difficult to turn in a fast time.
At La Verne, Moreno won two national championships, claiming the 5,000 meters at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and the 10,000 meters at the outdoor championships the same year. In 2012, she became the first-ever Leopard to earn All-America status in cross country.
Earlier in May, Moreno won the 2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim in a race record time of 1:15:55.
