REDLANDS, CA — The University of La Verne men's and women's track and field teams shined Wednesday night on day one of the Redlands Final Qualifier.

SCIAC Champion and back-to-back SCIAC Athlete of the week Subdue Ezinwa continued to show off his talents for the third week in a row. Ezinwa posted a personal record in the discus with a winning throw of 42.99m (141'0"). The junior's previous best was 42.01m (137'10") set at SCIAC No. 1 last season.

Michael Sahagun added his name to the La Verne top-10 list in the 1500m. The freshman ran a personal record of 4:01.72, the seventh-best time in Leopard history. Sahagun has looked impressive in his shortened debut season, adding his 1500m program top-10 finish to his SCIAC runner-up performance in the 3000m steeplechase.

Edward Carrillo contributed another record-setting performance in the distance events. Carillo ran a personal-best 16:12.93 in the 5000m to finish fifth. Carrillo shaved well over a minute off the time he ran at the SCIAC Championships less than two weeks ago.

Alyssa Galaviz added a personal record of her own in the women's discus. The newcomer added a throw of 21.99m (72'1") just missing out on the top-5. Galaviz's previous best was a throw of 21.15m (69'5") at the SCIAC Championships.

Dominic Flores put on a strong performance through the first five events of the decathlon. His best individual performance came in the shot put where he placed second with a throw of 9.05m (29'8¼"). Flores currently sits in third overall with 2,199 points.
