PASADENA — Kelsi Robinson, Destinee Sales and Brittany Yaxley of the University of La Verne volleyball team were named to the 2015 First Team All-SCIAC as voted on by the league's head coaches.
The trio guided the Leopards to a 20-7 (13-3 SCIAC) overall record in the regular season and led the team to upsets over the then-No. 6 Cal Lutheran and the then-No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Yaxley was her usual self, leading the SCIAC in total kills (207), service aces (29) and total points (250.5) in league play. She also cemented her spot among the best players in La Verne history as she became the program's all-time kills leader near the end of the season. She is currently ranked 77th in the nation in points per set with 4.09.
Sales turned in the best season of her career and came up big when it mattered the most. In the 3-2 win over the Regals on Oct. 16, Sales registered a career-high 17 kills—including 13 in the final three sets—to rally the Leopards. She put down 2.40 kills per set in SCIAC play while hitting .253 and was seventh in the league in total blocks with 47.
Robinson, who emerged as one of the best middle blockers in the country last season, led the conference in total blocks (66) and blocks per set (1.16). She was also one of the most efficient hitters for the Leopards this season, converting attacks at a .321 clip. She is currently ranked 36th in the nation in blocks per set (1.06) and 39th in total blocks (39).
La Verne will face No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tomorrow in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament semifinal, hosted by Cal Lutheran, at 5 p.m.
