Leopards Split with Poets at Home

Leopards Split with Poets at Home

LA VERNE, CA - The University of La Verne Leopards split the day and the score with the Poets of Whittier College in the first two games of a three game late season SCIAC series today.

Game 1. It was a come from behind sort of game for the Leopards. Down 0-3 after two innings, Ryan Vosika got the game going for La Verne with a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing in Matt Diaz who went 3 for 4 at the plate. Anthony Salcedo fired off a triple and posted 2 RBI's, followed by Chase Siffert, Pathan Perry, and Vosika who notched one (RBI) apiece. Game one went to the Leopards 6-4.

Game 2. Whittier's bats caught fire in game 2, serving up 6 unanswered runs into the top of the 4th. The bottom of the inning brought the Leopards back into the game, with an RBI each from Logan Reese and Benny Vogel. The Leopards earned two more runs in the fifth by Cameron Slessor and Nathan Perry, but it wasn't enough to cut the early deficit, and the Poets topped the Leopards 6-4.

Game three of the series will be at Whittier College tomorrow at 1pm.
