La Verne battles back, but falls to Redlands, 6-4

REDLANDS, Calif. – Christopher Peres went 5-for-5 and notched two RBIs and the La Verne baseball team combined for 15 hits, but it wasn't enough as the Leopards fell to University of Redlands, 6-4, at the Yard on Friday night.

La Verne (14-14, 8-5 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) took the lead in the top of the sixth when Peres drove in Jakob Thomas on floater to center, but Redlands (20-11, 11-5 SCIAC) responded with a run in each of the following innings to seal the deal, 6-4.

The Leopards struck first; Peres drove in Thomas, who smacked a triple to right center, on a single to centerfield. The Bulldogs would respond quickly driving in three in the bottom of the first.

With the Leopards chasing a 3-1 deficit, Dylan Lowenstein drove in Mark Abbate on a double to right center. Christopher Ligot reached first base on the ensuing play and advanced to second on a throwing error made by third baseman Christopher Scalisi. Lowenstein crossed the plate to tie it up at 3-3 in the top of the fifth.

La Verne returns to action on Saturday for a doubleheader against Redlands at Ben Hines Field.
