Baseball falls to Pomona-Pitzer 11-2

LA VERNE, Calif. — The La Verne baseball team had a tough time slowing down Pomona-Pitzer's offense in a 11-2 loss on Friday afternoon at Ben Hines Field.

The Sagehens tallied 13 hits, including two home runs, drew five walks and scored in every inning but two.

La Verne used six pitchers and each of them gave up at least one earned run.

The Sagehens struck first on a sacrifce fly by Nolan McCafferty after loading the bases. The Leopards responded immediately in the next half inning as they scratched together four consecutive singles to grab a 2-1.

But that was all the Leopards would muster. Pomona-Pitzer starter David Gerics (3-3) settled after the first inning and kept the Leopards scoreless for the rest of the game as he went the distance. He scattered nine hits and struck out nine without issuing a walk.

Jakob Thomas, Christopher Peres, Mark Abbate and Nicholas Michaels each talled two hits for La Verne.

Bryce Rogan and Matt Omori had three hits apiece for the Sagehens.

The team will complete the series with a doubleheader at Pomona-Pitzer tomorrow. First game starts at 11 a.m.
