Leopards Sweep Tigers to Open SCIAC

La Verne, CA – The Leopards played their scheduled doubleheader against Occidental College at home instead of on the road, and took both games by a score of 9-5 for the series sweep.

Game One

Fighting a three-run deficit to start the game, the Leos smashed 14 hits to rally back and beat the Tigers 9-5.

Noah Garcia and Logan Reese provided plenty of thump with two hits and an RBI each, which included back-to-back triples in the sixth inning. Six different Leopards drove in runs, led by Benny Vogel and Cameron Slessor both with a pair.

Left-hander Jaylon Fong fought deeper into the ballgame after a tough first inning, mustering six innings to help keep the bullpen fresh. Steven Vasquez, Ian Wong and Chase Pederson all threw one inning to close out the ballgame.

Game Two

Ethan Galindo kept La Verne in the ballgame in game two after entering in relief with nobody out in the first inning. The Leopards gave him plenty of support, scoring nine runs again on ten hits.

Luke Garcia set the tone for the order, hitting out of the leadoff spot; he had the only multi-hit game and collected three total knocks in game two. Garcia also drove in two runs, while Reese drove in three more for a total of four on the day. Slessor also had four RBI total, plating home two more on a bases-loaded single.

The Leopards open SCIAC play with a 3-0 record after sweeping the Tigers, improving to 6-4 overall. On March 3, they will travel to Redlands University to open a series with the Bulldogs.
