Late second half woes lead Kingsmen past Leopards

THOUSAND OAKS — A strong start for the La Verne Leopards fell short in the loss to the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen, 88-76, on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

The Leos kept it close the entire first half behind a hot shooting performance from Leopard of the Week, Paul Antonis. The junior forward ended the half with 13 points.

As the game went on, the tight score slowly expanded in favor of the Kingsmen. With 10 minutes left in the game, the Leos trailed by only five. One minute later that deficit stretched to 13 and sealed the deal for Cal Lutheran.

Around the court, guard Brian Adams continues to improve as the season progresses. Adams had arguably the best game of his career scoring 11 points on 5-8 shooting, while dishing out six assists, grabbing seven boards, and swiping a pair of steals.

Alex Blanco had another solid game off the bench for the Leopards scoring 13 points on 6-11 shooting in 26 minutes. Isaiah Knox was the only other Leo in double digits — scoring ten points.

With the loss, La Verne falls to 2-13 and 0-6 in SCIAC play. The Kingsmen move to 11-4 and 4-3.

The Leos look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to Caltech to face the Beavers on Saturday, Jan. 29.
