La Verne, CA – The University of La Verne Leopards opened the 2021 season at Ortmayer Stadium in a non-conference match against the visiting San Diego Christian Hawks, finishing tied 0-0 after double overtime.

The Game

The Leopards could not find the back of the net in their season opener, firing 13 shots throughout the match with three shots on goal. The Leopards also had eight corners in the match with five coming in the second half and both overtimes. The best chance for La Verne came in the 105th minute set up by a beautiful feed in the box from James Coe to Sanders Esplin whose shot flew just above the crossbar. Esplin led the Leopards with 3 shots.

La Verne got stellar play from their defense throughout the double-overtime stalemate led by their two goalkeepers who split the action today. Kevan Rhemani and Logan Reese both logged over 50 minutes and each collected three saves. Rhemani robbed Hawks forward Paul Anderson of two quality chances including one in the first minute of the match.

Season Impact

The Leopards are now 0-0-1 on the 2021 campaign. The Hawks are now 0-1-1.

Quick Turnaround

La Verne will be back in action Sunday night at 6:00 PM as they play host to the visiting Cal Lutheran Kingsmen.
