REDLANDS, CA — For the second game in a row, the University of La Verne men's soccer team headed to overtime hoping for a shot to coming away with a dramatic win.

But that hope came to an end 7:42 into the extra period as the Bulldogs' Collin ChubbFertal scored to give Redlands the 1-0 win.

That shot was the 40th of the game for the Bulldogs, while the Leopards only fired off 10 shots with two resulting in saves. Redlands posted two more shots on goal than La Verne had shots, 12.

Senior James Coe, a bright spot on the Leopards this season, posted both shots on goal, while an assortment of Leo midfielders collected the remainder of the shot attempts.

Ten shot attempts are well above the Leopards season average, 6.3 shots a game, so the La Verne offense did an above-average job creating opportunities on the attacking side of the ball. Earlier in the season against Pomona-Pitzer, the Leos only posted one shot attempt, but it found the net.

Two Bulldogs posted five or more shot attempts on the night, Avery Jacobson and Ethan Kovach, with only Jacobson coming near the net with two shots on goal.

The story of the game, however, was the time of possession. Redlands held the ball on their offensive half nearly the entire match starting at 13 seconds after the clock started with a blocked shot.

La Verne moves to 2-8-1 after the loss. Redlands, now 9-1-1, takes sole possession of second place behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

La Verne will look to break its recent skid on Wednesday, September 13 when they host Caltech.
