The University of La Verne men's tennis team hosted the Johnnies
from St. Paul (Minn), but fell 7-2 Tuesday afternoon at the
Claremont Club.
The #1 Doubles team of Richie Delgado and Alex Muresan were able
to defeat Luke Odegaard and Eric Inglis 8-3 to grab the first point
of the match. Adrian Laygo and Joe Matsuoka battled hard in an
effort to steal another point, but came up short 9-7 against St.
John's Marcus Schoepp and Kevin Goihl.
Delgado and Odegaard matched up again in Singles play, and while
Delgado would win the first set, Odegaard would come back and win
the second, sending it into a tie-break. Delgado would come out on
top, in a 6-3, 3-6, (12-10) final, scoring the second point of the
match for La Verne.
The Leopards will continue conference action this Saturday, as
they take on Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. The match
begins at 2:00pm.
