The University of La Verne men's tennis team took part in the
SCIAC tournament this past weekend, and took home 8th place after
dropping matches to Redlands (9-0), Occidental (9-0), and Caltech
(5-4).
After coming up short against the Redlands Bulldogs and Occidental
Tigers, La Verne was matched up against Caltech Saturday morning.
#2 doubles Wesley Dean and Nick Mizenmacher, as well as #3
doubles Adrian Laygo and Joe Matsuoka got off to a strong start,
winning their matches 8-5 and 8-1 respectively.
Dean continued strong play in singles, defeating his opponent 7-6,
6-0, notching the 3rd point of the match for La Verne. Mark
Rivas was also able to win his battle 6-1, 7-6, giving the Leopards
their final point of the match.
This concludes the 2009 seasons for the Leopards, and they will say goodbye to senior Richie Delgado, who was #2 in singles, and senior Adrian Laygo, who played La Verne tennis his entire collegiate career and finished as the #1 singles player.
