Track and Field competes at Mountain T's Invitational

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The La Verne track and field teams continued their tuneup for the spring season at the annual Mountain T's Indoor Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona, on Feb. 3-4.

Men's competition

Kyle Ambat posted the Leopards' lone win of the meet, winning the triple jump with a leap of 13.38 meters (43 feet, 10.75 inches). Ambat also finished ninth in the long jump at 6.15m (20-02.25)

Joshua Francis did well in the sprints, taking first in the open portion of the 400 meters with a raw time of 50.23 and fourth in the 200 meters at 22.49.

The Leopards' 4x400m relay team of Jeffrey OukJesus PayanPatrick Cornwell and Francis came in second behind Northern Arizona with a time of 3:29.28.

Garrett Hansen recorded a clearance of 4.00m (13-01.50) in the pole vault to take third.

Chris Gura, who claimed three throwing events in the season opening meet at Westmont last Saturday, was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.86m (48-09.00).

Women's competition

Tiahna Gillon posted a time of 8.35 in the 60 meters, falling short of making the final. Carmen Sandoval finished eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.14.

Ebony Turner posted a solid result in the high jump, clearing 1.55m (5-01.00) to finish 10th.

Taylor Schulze cleared 3.35m (10-11.75) in the pole vault and finished fifth.

Catalina Lee Kim finished fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 10.35m (33-11.50) and ninth in the long jump (4.75m; 15-07.00).

The Leopards return to action on Feb. 18 at Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers.
