LA VERNE, CA — Rachel Rubio and Francheska Juarez have been tabbed SCIAC Athletes of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday afternoon.

Rubio picked SCIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week honors after earning the win in game two against the Lions. The freshman pitched the first complete game of her career, struck out a pair of batters, gave up just five hits, and allowed just one walk and one earned run.

Juarez earned SCIAC Softball Hitter of the Week accolades after leading the Leopards with four hits including a 3-3 performance with a double in game one. In the opener, she stole second to get into scoring position and then scored what proved to be the winning run later in the inning.

Rubio and Juarez are the third and fourth Leopards to pick up SCIAC Softball Athlete of the Week honors. Katheryn Navarro and Jiana Rojo both earned the recognition last week after leading La Verne to a pair of wins over St. Katherine in the opening series of the season.

The Leopards play their annual alumni game on Saturday, February 8 before facing their first NCAA opponent of the season when they host Northwest Conference member Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, February 15 in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
