Navarro Hits Walk-Off Homer in 8th

LA VERNE, CA — Katheryn Navarro wasted little time in extra innings. The senior led off the bottom of the eighth inning for the Leopards and hit a solo shot over the center field fence to give the University of La Verne softball team a 5-4 win over WPI.

Taylor Gray hit her first career home run in the win. The freshman left the yard in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2. The Leopards took the lead later that inning after Natalia Aguilera drew a walk, stole second and then scored off Shelby Tevis's double.

The Engineers briefly took the lead back in the top off the sixth when WPI's Kaitlyn Hess scored off a La Verne error. The Leopards took advantage of an error by WPI in the bottom half of the inning when Gray reached on an error and advanced to second. Aguilera stepped up next and singled in Gray to even the score.

Jiana Rojo picked up her eighth win of the season, pitching all eight innings, striking out three, and allowing just two earned runs.

Justice Borden got the Leopards on the board in the first inning with an RBI double to score Francheska Juarez.

The Leopards dropped the second game of the doubleheader 12-2.

Season Impact

The Leopards improve to 11-5 overall. WPI starts their season 1-1.
