Softball Splits With Redlands

REDLANDS, CA — The Leopards couldn't muster enough offense in game one but the University of La Verne softball team edged out the Bulldogs in game two to salvage a split at Redlands on Saturday.

Season Impact

After Saturday's results, the Leopards move to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the SCIAC. Redlands shifts to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Game Two: La Verne 3, Redlands 2

The Leopards jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and scored what proved to be the winning run in the fourth inning.

Jiana Rojo got the job done in the circle, pitching six innings while limiting the Bulldogs' offense. At the plate, Rojo got the Leopards on the board in the first with an RBI single that brought in Niyah Brown.

Clarissa Salazar doubled the lead in the second inning when she doubled in Natalia Aguilera. The difference-maker ended up being a single by Gabriella Underwood that sent Savanah Gherir to the plate.

Rachel Rubio pitched the final inning to earn the save. La Verne generated the three runs off just four hits.

Game One: Redlands 8, La Verne 2

The Bulldogs got out to a 7-0 lead after the third inning and the Leopards couldn't recover.

The Leopards put two runs on the board in the fourth off RBI singles by Katheryn Navarro and Brown but that was all the offense La Verne could manage.

Brown led La Verne with two hits.

Redlands was led by Tyesen Gordon's three hits and two RBIs.
