LA VERNE, Calif — The sun came out as the Leopards competed against Occidental in its first home meet of the season.
"The women raced extremely well and showed tremendous depth today" said Head Coach Pat Skehan, who picked up her first women's win against Oxy since her tenure started in 2011-12. All of the women competing picked up points for the win.
Krislyn Cha led the women with a display of versatility, winning the 200 yard butterfly (2:16.42), 200 yard backstroke (2:19.50), and the 200 yard IM (2:18.75). She also was a member of the winning 200 yard medley relay team.
Newcomers Kayla Yip and Rachel Fox had big wins in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.99) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.95), respectively. Their solid starts were enough to give them the extra edge over Oxy's Lianne McKinney (1:06.83) and Ellie O'Brien (1:10.23).
Amber DeLoye won both, 3M and 1M boards. "[Amber] dove really well today and I'm excited abour her season," said Skehan.
Karla Fuertez picked up the win in 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.92. Rachel Miyoga added nine points for La Verne with a win in the 50 yard freestyle (26.45).
Although the men were outmanned, they were solid in their performances.

"All in all it was a great team effort" Skehan said. "Everyone worked to contribute to the cause and set ourselves up for great things in the future."
