LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's soccer team had solid chances but couldn't convert, dropping to North Central 1-0 in a nonconference match Sunday evening at Ortmayer Stadium.
Chances
The Leopards first real chance came with just over 15 minutes left in the opening half. Savannah Dingman won a ball on the left side and drove in, firing a shot, but keeper Gretchen Frantz made a diving save to keep the game even. Frantz would give the Leopards headaches all night.
Ten minutes later La Verne had another opportunity. Juna Bouchekara set up for a corner kick and sent a nicely placed ball into the box. La Verne was able to get a touch on the ball but Frantz came up with the save again.
Ivana Fatovic was able to get another close shot off with one minute left in the half, but Frantz was there again with the diving save.
Difference Maker
The lone goal of the game came in the 67th minute of play when North Central's Aly Crum knocked in an unassisted goal that proved to be the difference.
Season Impact
The Leopards move to 0-1-1 and the Cardinals improve to 1-1.
Next Game
La Verne next opens up SCIAC play on Wednesday, September 5 when they host the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas at Ortmayer Stadium.
