Mier, Heldenbrand Named All-SCIAC

LA VERNE, CA — Juniors Ayana Mier and Emily Heldenbrand have been named Second Team All-SCIAC the Southern California Intercollegiate Conference announced today. It is the first time either player earns All-SCIAC honors.

Mier was one of the best offensive threats in the conference this season. The Pomona native ranked fourth in the SCIAC with 282 total kills and placed third with 3.36 kills per set. She finished with double-digit kills in all but three games she played in this season. She also added 39 blocks and 47 digs. She posted a season-high 19 kills in a five-set win at Caltech and closed the year with 18 kills in a 3-2 win over Occidental in the season finale.

Heldenbrand did it all for the Leopards. The setter ranked fifth in the conference in both assists per set with 6.90 and total assists with 559. She came into her own as an attacking threat late in the year posting double-digit kills in three of La Verne's last five games and finished the year with 114 kills. Heldenbrand also ranked second on La Verne and ninth in the SCIAC with 330 digs. 

The duo led the Leopards on a three-game win streak to close the year.
