Women's Water Polo dominates Siena, 15-2

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's water polo team dominated Siena to pick up a 15-2 win on Thursday afternoon at La Verne Aquatics Center.

The Leopards improve to 3-0 on the season while Siena drops to 1-5.

La Verne jumped on the Saints early and rode a suffocating defense. The Leopards started the game on a 9-0 run and the Siena didn't get on the board until two minutes left in the second quarter. The Leopards rattled off six more goals to stretch the lead to 15-1. Siena tacked on a goal with 10 seconds left in the game.

"I was really impressed with our defense today," La Verne head coach William Rodriguez said. "Our defense was our starting point and that led to a lot of counterattack goals. We are very happy with our defense and our counterattack."

Guarina Garcia and Katie Stelnicki led the Leopards with three goals apiece. Catie Tuning and Megan Little added two goals each.

Terez Touhey scored both goals for Siena.

"We're doing well but it's still a fairly new team," Rodriguez said. "We only have three games under our belt and I believe we still have a lot of room for improvement."

The Leopards are back in action on March 4-5 at Claremont Convergence, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer.
