CLAREMONT, CA — Sam Taylor rushed for a pair of scores, Preston Carr finished with a game-high 13 tackles, but the University of La Verne football team couldn't overcome a fast start by Pomona-Pitzer and fell to the Sagehens 49-14.
Taylor found the endzone twice in the fourth quarter to get the Leopards on the board. He set up the first score with a 47-yard pass to Jordan Moore to the one-yard line. Taylor finished the drive with a one-yard rush.
On the Leopards following possession, the quarterback scampered for 10 yards to the endzone to cap off an 81-yard drive.
Martaveous Holliday led the Leopards on the ground with 76 yards rushing. Moore finished with 72 receiving yards.
Carr registered 10 solo tackles in the game including one for a loss. Robert Franklin finished with 11 total tackles, seven solo tackles, and one for a loss.
Quarterback Karter Odermann led the Sagehens with six total touchdowns including four rushing scores.
Season Impact
After Saturday's result, the Leopards drop to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference actions. Pomona-Pitzer improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC.
Next Game
The Leopards return to Ortmayer Stadium next Saturday for their homecoming game against Whittier. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
