LA VERNE, CA — Jovanni Garcia has been named the SCIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference office announced on Monday.
Garcia provided the dramatics for the Leopards in their SCIAC opener, scoring the game-winning goal with just 68 seconds left in regulation. Garcia gathered a pass from Cesar Rodriguez, created separation from his defender at the top of the box, and drilled a shot to the top left corner of the net. The Leopards held off Pomona-Pitzer in the final minute to win 1-0.
Garcia is tied for fourth nationally with 20 points and tied for seventh with eight goals. He leads the SCIAC in both categories.
The forward is the second member of the La Verne men's soccer team to earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors. Keeper Tristan Polakowski picked up the award after his performance against Providence Christian.

The Leopards get back to nonconference action today when they travel to St. Katherine to face the Firebirds at 1 p.m.
