LA VERNE, CA — Jovanni Garcia was tabbed First Team All-SCIAC and Jack Kolodge picked up the SCIAC Award of Distinction the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Wednesday.
Garcia took the SCIAC by storm in his first year with the Leopards. The junior transfer dominated the SCIAC's offensive statistics and finished the regular season with 14 goals and 33 points, both top marks in the conference. The next closest players scored seven goals and totaled 19 points. Garcia also tied for first on the Leopards' squad and tied for third in the SCIAC with five assists. The Gardena native scored a goal in all but one of the Leopards' wins.
Garcia had multiple highlight-worthy games. The junior scored three goals in a home win over St. Katherine, scored two goals in wins over Whitworth and at St. Katherine, and notched three assists and one goal in a win against Providence Christian. He also picked up SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors after the Leopards' conference opener when he scored the game-winning goal against Pomona-Pitzer with just 68 seconds remaining in regulation.
Kolodge picks up the prestigious SCIAC Award of Distinction for his work off the field. The four-year member of the Leopards' squad donates his time at Meals on Wheels in Claremont. He and other volunteers deliver meals to the people who are incapable of making meals themselves or do not have people in their lives to make meals for them. Those incapable of making food included the elderly, physically disabled, and even people who were in accidents and/or temporarily bed-ridden. Each day consists of different routes to deliver and the Kolodge and the other volunteers take the time to have conversations with the recipients, providing a positive community outreach.
The senior also made a big impact for his squad during his Leopard career. He appeared in 70 games, scored six goals, and registered two assists.
