Men's Track and Field scores four first place finishes

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Andrew Carrasco, T.J. Randall, Kyle Ambat, and the 4x400 meter relay team each scored wins for the University of La Verne men's track and field team Saturday at the Westmont On Your Marks Meet.

Returning All-American Carrasco took first in the weight throw with a distance of 15.62 meters. 

Randall added a win of his own in the shot put with a throw of 15.03 meters. Randall also took fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 14.14 meters.

La Verne went one-two in the triple jump with Ambat winning the event with a leap of 13.59 meters and Nicolas Freeman taking second at 12.72 meters.

The Leopards took three of the top four spots in the long jump with Ambat taking second (6.45 meters), Anthony Carter placing third (6.40 meters), and Freeman finishing fourth (6.27 meters).

On the track, the 4x400 meter relay team scored a win with a time of 3:23.65 seconds. The combination of  Trevor Welch, Terrence Robinson, Jeffrey Ouk, and Joshua Francis beat second place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by nearly four seconds in the race.

Matthew Salas led La Verne with a third place finish in the one mile run with a time of 4:30.90. Teammate Eric Lopez-Elwell followed close behind in fourth place at 4:37.22.

Junior Hunter Powers took fourth in the pole vault at a height of 2.90 meters.

Nathan Bradley took fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.21) and Robinson finished fourth in the 60 meter dash (7.22).

Next Meet: La Verne will complete as a split squad next week with some Leopards returning to Westmont for the Sunshine Open while others head to Northern Arizona for the NAU Invitational.
