LA CROSSE, Wis. — Kyle Ambat had a memorable showing in his first appearance at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The junior, who came into the event ranked 20th in the country, finished in 15th place overall in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.04m (23-01.25). The Riverside native hit the mark on his first attempt.
Ambat finishes his junior season with both All-West Region and All-SCIAC honors. His personal record of 23-8 set at the Redlands Last Chance Qualifier was the best of any SCIAC athlete this season.
Ambat will look to improve upon his third place SCIAC finishes in both the long jump and triple jump next year.
Catalina Lee Kim begins competition in the 100m hurdles prelims tomorrow at 1:30 p.m (PDT).
