Four Leopards Take First at SCIAC No. 1

CLAREMONT, CA — Four Leopards took first and the University of La Vene men's track and field team looked sharp at SCIAC No. 1.

Matthew Salas led the way for the Leopards with a win in the 1500m run. The junior ran a personal best time of 3:58.28 ranking him fourth all-time in La Verne history. The time is the fastest time in NCAA DIII this season. 

The Leopards dominated in the throws with Matthew Pedroza, Subdue Ezinwa, and Andres Lemus each picking up wins. Pedroza added a first-place finish in the shot put with a winning throw of 44-2.75, the 10th best throw nationally this season. Subdue Ezinwa took the top spot in the discus with a distance of 137-10 also the 10th best in DIII, and Lemus grabbed a victory in the javelin with a final throw of 149-00, 21st in the country.

In the sprints, Terrence Robinson turned in a pair of second-place finishes. In the 100m he crossed at 11.04 and in the 200m he finished with a time of 22.38. His times place him seventh and 10th nationally, respectively.

Zachary Reid ran the fifth-fastest time in the nation in 110m hurdles, finishing in second place at 15.37. Anthony Carter took second in the long jump with a final leap of 20-11.75 the 11th best mark in DIII.

The Leopards are back in action on Thursday, March 19 at the Adams-Klein Combined Events meet at Westmont.
