REDLANDS, CA — The University of La Verne track and field teams ended the shortened 2021 season on a high note with five personal records and two program top-10 finishes.

Subdue Ezinwa, Alyssa Galaviz, Devin Spreeman, Jazzlyn Johnson, and Zachary Reid all finished with personal best and Spreeman and Reid etched their names in the La Verne record books.

"With the short window we had for a season this spring, I am very proud of the efforts of the group, and a very young group at that," said La Verne Track and Field Head Coach Kevin Reid. "We will bring a strong core group back with the addition of the 2021 recruiting class. The 2021 cross country season and the 2022 track and field season could be very special."

Reid moved closer to his goal of breaking the La Verne record in the 110m hurdles. The sophomore who entered the meet ranked seventh all-time in the Leopard record book with a time of 15.37 in the event, blew past his previous best with a time of 15.19. The finish moves Reid to fourth all-time, passed Ryan Traville who ran a 15.3 over twenty years ago in 1999. Reid will have some work to do to move into the top three. Sam Dodd (1998) currently owns the third spot in the La Verne list with a time of 14.73, but Reid certainly has the potential to improve his time. Michael Anderson (2012), owns the top spot with a time of 14.69.

Spreeman made her way into the La Verne record books with a personal-record performance in the pole vault. The sophomore finished with a final height of 2.97m (9'7") placing her 10th all-time. Spreeman edged out the previous No. 10 mark of 9'6" set by Amanda Santos in 2006.

Ezinwa concluded his stellar 2021 campaign. After setting a personal record in the discus on day one of the meet, the junior added another personal best this time in the shot put with a heave of 13.19m (43' 3¼") to win the event.

Galaviz also made it two personal records in as many days. The freshman set a personal best on day one in the discus and broke her own record in the shot put on day two with a throw of 9.34m (30' 7¾").

Two-sport athlete Jazzlyn Johnson capped off her season with a personal record in the 100m hurdles. The All-SCIAC basketball player showed she can be dangerous in two sports, crossing the finish line with a time of 16.59.

"It was a good end of the season for our squad," said Reid. "Several personal bests over the last two days and several of those marks will show up on the La Verne Track and Field Top-10 list. With the late start we ran out of time. Even with only a few weeks of training, most of the group was on the brink of some great performances. Next year will be a good one."
