CLAREMONT, CA — Matthew Salas finished in the top-15 and the University of La Verne men's cross country team showed significant improvement at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday morning.
Salas paced La Verne with a time of 25:58.8 to finish in 14th place finish. The junior, who is fresh off of earning SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors, has led the Leopards' squad all season.
Alexander Medina finished next for the Leopards, clocking in at 27:59.6 to take 46th overall.

"Our top four showed a lot of progress from last week in terms of intensity throughout the race," said La Verne Cross Country Head Coach Justin Wood. "Today gives us a great look at where we stand currently on the same course that we race for SCIACs and West Regionals. Now, we go into a three-week training cycle before our conference championships."
Joel Reyes followed close behind Medina with a time of 27:59.6. Eric Lopez-Elwell crossed at 29:32.8, Kyle Regret ended at 30:37.0, and Luke Garcia closed out at 31:18.0.
The Leopards finished in seventh place overall.
Next Race
The Leopards take a couple of weeks off of competition before heading into the SCIAC Championships on November 2.
