LA VERNE, Calif. — Katherine Kibbe pitched a one-run complete game and the University of La Verne softball team tagged the SCIAC wins and ERA leader Anna Gurr for five runs on 10 hits to beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 5-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at Campus West on Saturday.

The second game was postponed due to inclement weather. Make up date is yet to be determined.

The Athenas struck first with a Briana Halle RBI single in the top of the first, but the Leopards struck back for two in the bottom half of the frame on hits by Mackenzie Dutton and Kibbe and never looked back.

Victoria Baltazar plated Raeleen Tellez with a seeing-eye single to add a run in the bottom of the second and hit a dagger two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win for La Verne.

La Verne improves to 18-9 overall and 14-3 in the SCIAC. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps falls to 22-6-1 and 15-2.

Kibbe (10-4) scattered just five hits in seven effective innings to pick up her 10th win of the season.

Baltazar, Dutton, Kibbe and Tellez each collected two hits to dent Gurr's stat line. Gurr (13-3) had gone into the game with a league-high 13 wins and a miniscule 1.12 ERA. She was charged with the loss after giving up five runs in six innings.

The Leopards are back in action on Friday at home against Pomona-Pitzer.
