Women's Hoops Gives Back Through Shoe Drive

The University of La Verne women's basketball program recently teamed with the Shoes That Fit organization to help provide new athletic shoes for local children.

The Leopard program worked in conjunction with the University of La Verne's Administrative Professional and Classified Personnel Committees towards the University's Annual Holiday Shoe Drive for Children.

Women's basketball picked up athletic shoes from a local retail store and donated to Shoes That Fit to serve the needs for school-aged children.  "It was great to contribute to a worthwhile cause and know that we can possibly have an impact on the community," said senior Amanda Copas.  "It serves as a reminder for us to be grateful for what we have."   Copas also said that the donation of the athletic shoes could help encourage participation in sports in school-aged kids.

Each member of the Leopard basketball team contributed to the overall shoe drive effort.  "If we can make a difference to an aspiring athlete, then we've achieved our goal," said Leopard head coach Matt Rogers.  "Our women's basketball program was extremely proud to be involved with this project."
