Women’s Basketball cruises past Bristol, 74-50

LA VERNE, Calif. — Emily Myers scored 17 points, Brianna Bishop had 13 and the University of La Verne women's basketball team defeated Bristol, 74-50, on Wednesday nigh at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

La Verne improves to 2-2 while Bristol falls to 0-4.

The Leopards were efficient on offense and suffocating on defense. La Verne assisted on 18 of 25 made baskets and went 19-for-25 at the line while holding the Bears to just 33.9 percent shooting and forcing them into 21 turnovers. La Verne took advantage of the turnovers on the other end, turning them in to 21 points.

Myers was a threat from all over the court, dominating the paint and getting into good spots for easy shots from midrange. She went 7-for-12 from the field and grabbed six rebounds.

Bishop, who's been enjoying a breakout season, got the starting nod for the first time this season and continued her hot streak, finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds.

La Verne used a 14-0 run from late first quarter through early second to grab a 17-point lead and never looked back. Bishop got the run going with a three-pointer and Myers capped it off with a pair of layups.

The Leopards stretched the lead in the second half and led by as many as 27 points.

Diana Pena chipped in 10 points and six rebounds off the bench. Shannon Irwin, Erika Pagkalinawan and Noelle Cobb each dished out three assists.

Allie Kemy-Trueman led Bristol with 15 points and Jessica Phillips hauled in a game-high xx rebounds.

Thee Leopards are back in action on Dec. 12 at home against La Sierra at 6 p.m.
