Women's Basketball falls at UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA — Shannon Irwin and Noelle Cobb each had 13 points but the University of La Verne women's basketball team had a tough time executing its offense in a 89-41 loss to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon at the Thunderdome.

La Verne falls to 2-5 while UCSB moves to 2-11.The Gauchos used their considerable size advantages across every position to stymie the Leopards and get easy baskets on offense. The Leopards were held to just 23.7 shooting from the field while the Gauchos shot 57.1 percent.

UCSB outrebounded La Verne, 49-26, and scored 20 second chance points.

Cobb, who was coming off a 18-point, 7-rebound performance against Pacific (Ore.) on Thursday, continued her solid play. The junior was 4-of-9 from the field and converted five of six free throws. She added four rebounds to go along with her 13 points.

Irwin was her usual versatile self, tallying 13 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Coco Miller led all scorers with 22 points for UCSB. Taylor Farris pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds off the bench.

The Leopards return to action next week against DeSales and St. Vincent at the annual D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas.
