Women's Basketball falls at The Master's

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's basketball team could not get much going against NAIA No. 14 The Master's on Saturday at Bross Court.

La Verne falls to 0-2. The Master's improves to 2-0.

Noelle Cobb and Faye Osburn hit back-to-back jumpers in the opening minutes to give the Leopards a 4-2 lead but that turned out to be La Verne's first and only lead of the game. The Mustangs close the first quarter on a 20-2 lead to get out to a 22-6 lead and never looked back. The second quarter played out similarly and the Master's took a 47-15 lead into halftime.

La Verne fared better in the second half, putting up 28 points. Alena Koay scored eight points in the second half, Madison Rubino chipped in five and Osburn put up five.

Koay played well in 18 minutes off the bench, finishing with 10 points and six rebounds. Brianna Bishop, Cobb and Osburn each finished with six points.

Four players cracked double-digits in points for the Master's. Biana Cubello led the Mustangs' charge on both ends of the court with 17 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and five blocked shots.

La Verne returns to action on Tuesday at Antelope Valley.
