Women's Basketball drops to Occidental, 75-64

LA VERNE, Calif. —Brianna Bishop of the La Verne women's basketball team posted her first career double-double, but Occidental used a 10-1 fourth quarter run to defeat the Leopards 75-64 on Saturday at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

Bishop scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end. Karli Kato tallied a career-high 15 points and hauled in eight boards. Alexa Withers pitched in 10 points.

La Verne (0-12, 0-3 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) held a narrow edge for most of the game until the Tigers broke the game open with their run. Oxy (7-6, 2-1) started its big run with 5:52 left in the game with a baseline jumper by Triana Anderson and grabbed a 61-51 lead with 2:09 to go.

The Leopards fouled the rest of the way but the Tigers made 13 of 15 free throws in the last two minutes to ice the game.

Erin Matsumoto led the Tigers with 22 points to go along with five rebounds. Anderson finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.

La Verne's Noelle Cobb, who missed the last two games, took the court in the second half and provided a spark, scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds in 10 minutes of action.

The Leopards are back in action on Monday at home against Pomona-Pitzer.
