Pacheco, Weaver named NSCAA Scholar All-West Region

KANSAS CITY — Seniors Delanie Pacheco and J.J. Weaver of the University of La Verne women's soccer team were named to the 2014 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-West Region as voted on by the NSCAA Scholar All-America Committee. Both were named to the Second Team.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution; and be in his or her second year at the current school if he or she is a transfer student.

Both Broadcast Television majors, Pacheco posted a 3.41 cumulative GPA and Weaver had a 3.49.

Neither was a slouch on the field this season.

Pacheco added here second First-Team All-SCIAC honors and third overall All-SCIAC award in 2014. She was top-five in the conference in saves (81, 2nd), save percentage (.802, 5th) and goal-against (20, 5th) while recording six shutouts on the season. She was instrumental in directing La Verne's back line for the past four years and provided reliable presence in net.

Weaver earned her first all-conference honor in 2014 as she was named to the Second Team All-SCIAC. She was top-five in the conference in most attacking categories. She was tied for third in goals (7) and assists (4), which added up to 18 points. Weaver did an excellent job holding up plays up front and provided a big target for the Leopards up front all season. She finished her career with 10 total goals and six assists.
